Morning. Indeed's chief executive said something this week. Which is nice. Anyway, it was that applications per job are up 111% since 2022. Recruiter headcount over the same stretch is down 56%. His line was "you got 1,000 applications, and you think all 1,000 people are not qualified? Something's wrong."
Then Visier asked a thousand employees about AI at work. More than half say their job has already changed because of it. Nearly half admit they talk up how much they use it and how good they are at it. And at a conference in New York on Thursday, marketers were passing round a new phrase for the standard of the work coming out the other end: "good enough, go." So the applications are written by AI, the screening is done by AI, and now a chunk of the actual job is too. Everybody is exaggerating and everybody knows.
The rest of this week was a jury in Santa Fe deciding Meta's statements about your data broke the law 43,899,720 times, and a dog food company in New York spending $3.5m on brand after years of spending nothing. Maybe they have Pedigree?

Applications per position rose 111% between 2022 and 2025. Recruiter headcount fell 56% over the same period. Hisayuki Idekoba runs Indeed and his complaint is that employers are receiving a thousand applications and concluding that none of the thousand can do the job. Greenhouse chief executive Daniel Chait calls it an AI doom loop: both sides using AI individually makes the whole thing worse collectively. Fake applications are part of it, including North Korean IT worker scams. Both men sell hiring software, so the diagnosis - you guessed it - is also the sales pitch.

Visier asked a thousand full time employees. More than half say their role changed significantly because of AI inside two years. Almost 60% do not know what their employer intends to do about it. Nearly half feel pressure to use AI, and a similar share admit exaggerating how much they use it and how good they are. 70% worry about the effect on their career and a quarter specifically fear losing the job. 41% taught themselves the tools. 15% were trained by their employer. Visier sells workforce analytics, which is the thing that would show managers the real numbers.

From Digiday's own AI Marketing Strategies event on Thursday, under Chatham House rules, so most of the quotes have no name on them. A beauty marketer: "The quality control is so bad." One person described their week as 10% prompting, 80% the machine, 10% fixing what came back. Another: "There's a growing acceptance of 'good enough, go.'" Agency work is reportedly going out with the logo wrong and being caught by a human at the last gate. Isabel Perry at DEPT says the job now is measuring gaps rather than numbers.

A Santa Fe jury ruled on Friday that 26 of 29 Meta statements were deceptive, totalling 43,899,720 violations. At $5,000 each the statutory ceiling is around $219.5bn. Mark Zuckerberg wrote 14 of the 26 statements, Sheryl Sandberg six, Nick Clegg two. The Cambridge Analytica statements alone account for 18,146,592 violations. Dana replied that he had "a unique way of navigating the palette-forward and denim aspects" and wrapped up positively.
Uncensored CMO, episode 288 · Jon Evans with Karen Blackett CBE · 23 September 2026 · 54 minutes
Blackett ran WPP in the UK as President and before that was chief executive of GroupM UK. Most of this is about how she builds teams and how she hires, which is the part to listen to if you are thinking about your next move. She separates consensus from actual alignment, argues for keeping tension in a team rather than smoothing it out, and describes a standing meeting habit she uses to force the hard conversation. Also GroupM through Covid, and the Barbados rebrand.
The Dave Gerhardt Show, episode 391 · Dave Gerhardt with Hailey McDonald, VP Revenue Marketing, Sprout Social · 17 September 2026 · 39 minutes
What demand generation looks like inside a sixteen year old platform with 30,000 customers, rather than inside a startup. McDonald walks through how she segments, how the segments then decide where the budget goes, and what changes when a company moves from sales led to product led. Useful if you are weighing a scale-up job against a startup one and want to know what the day actually looks like.
Hello. Fluvio has been asking product marketing teams about AI for two years running and this year's answer is a bit grim. 89% of teams use it every day, up from 82.5%. 13% can point to any measurable impact, which is exactly the same as last year. Nought per cent track revenue or pipeline. 59% say they want to measure revenue impact and 4% say they can.
The number I keep going back to is a different one though. Marketing's ownership of AI inside these companies fell from 48% to 20% in a single year. IT and cross-functional committees went from 30% to 56%. So we got faster, we got more work asked of us, 74% report higher output expectations, and in the same twelve months we handed the steering wheel to somebody else. 67% built their own custom GPTs. None of them built one for another function.
Also this week, unredacted court filings show Microsoft measured its own Copilot cutting clicks to the New York Times by up to 93%. If your category story depends on people reading things, that is your number.
Research · Devon O'Rourke, research led by Lyle Burns, Fluvio, 23 September 2026
Fielded July to September across software, fintech, banking, payments and consulting. 89% of teams use AI daily. 13% can track measurable impact, unchanged on last year. 0% track revenue or pipeline impact. Marketing's ownership of AI fell from 48% to 20%. Companies with no AI governance at all dropped from 30% to 4% and training nearly tripled to 65%. 87% do the same work faster and 74% now face higher output expectations. Fluvio is a product marketing consultancy, so a finding that PMM teams are fast but unmeasured sits close to what it sells.

Announced 15 September 2026. Madrona and Antler new, Creandum, Ada Ventures, Entrepreneur First, Episode 1 and Playfair returning
Two AI agents, one working for the candidate and one for the employer, and a match only surfaces when both agree. 25 people across London and San Francisco, 15 of whom have founded something before. $60m raised in total, and the money is largely for the US. I don't think it will work, but that's beside the point. The hiring signal here is the strongest of the four: their careers page is currently advertising a VP B2B Marketing in London at £250,000 to £350,000 plus total compensation, alongside a founding community and events lead and a GTM engineer. That is in Three Roles below.
Announced 9 September 2026. Calculus Venture Capital, Entrepreneur First and Lockheed Martin's venture arm also in
AI that writes the toolpaths for CNC machining, so a precision manufacturer can program a part without a specialist doing it by hand. Founded 2015, used by over a thousand machine shops, Lockheed Martin both a customer and now an investor. The stated plan names go-to-market expansion. In practice the seven roles currently live are sales, onboarding and CAM programming, plus a Marketing Machinist in Chelmsford. No London marketing role is advertised today.
Announced 23 September 2026. Active Partners new, PXN Group, Accelerate Ventures and Ventures Together returning
A wall-mounted AI mirror that watches your form, counts your reps and projects a trainer into the room. About $20m raised since 2023. Active Partners coming in is the interesting part for a consumer marketer: they backed Soho House, Rapha and Leon. The money is for the US, and they have hired a former Peloton international managing director to run it. There is no careers page on the site and I could not verify a single open marketing role, so treat the hiring signal as unknown rather than absent.
Announced 22 September 2026. Global Founders Capital and Sondo also in, plus angels from Qonto, Pennylane and HSO
A registered audit firm running statutory audits on its own platform, which plugs into clients' ERPs, subledgers and banks, rather than software sold to auditors. London and Oslo, founders out of Palantir, Goldman Sachs and One Peak. The money goes on Sweden, more of Europe, and hiring across audit and engineering. Eight roles are live and none of them is marketing, growth or GTM. If you like the category, this one is a watch-and-wait.

Wayve builds the self-driving software, the "AI Driver", and this is the first time it has had a Head of Marketing. The advert is unusually clear about the shape: you report to the VP of Marketing Communications and inherit a team of around four covering product marketing, digital, marketing ops, design and web. So it is senior and it comes with people, but it is not the top marketing job in the building.

Lendable is the UK consumer credit lender, over 800 people, profitable since 2017, backed by Balderton and Goldman Sachs. The advert describes a step change in D2C marketing investment and a full rebrand of the company and product under the Zable name, with the marketing function being built out at pace. You would lead the channel's dedicated analysts. One thing to check at first interview: the body of the advert talks about direct mail specifically, so ask how wide the remit really is.
Announced 22 September 2026. Valuation over $12bn
Data security: working out what data humans, machines and AI agents can actually reach, and governing it. Around 1,200 people, headquartered on Broadway. The money is for the AI security roadmap, the federal market, and EMEA and APAC. This is the clearest marketing hiring signal in New York this month. Seven marketing roles are live right now including a VP of Product Marketing reporting to the CMO, a creative director, a director of web strategy, a senior ABM manager and a campaign manager. They are posted as remote or hybrid US rather than New York, so no salary bands are published.
Announced 22 September 2026. Trenches Capital, Watchfire, Barrel Ventures, Footwork and Y Combinator also in
AI joining up finance, accounting, sales and operations for consumer brands: deductions, trade spend, forecasting. 250 plus CPG brands, over $30bn of retail sales planned through it, $77m raised in total and a valuation up fivefold on the Series A. The release names go-to-market as a use of funds. About 27 New York roles are live with published bands and not one of them has marketing, brand, growth, demand gen or content in the title. The GTM hiring is real and it is all sales.
Announced 22 September 2026. Redpoint, Duration Ventures, Sierra Ventures and Bain Capital Ventures also in
Corporate entertainment as software. Client dinners, team events, catering, sport, with spend controls on top. 60 plus enterprise clients, around 93,000 venues in more than 90 cities, over $400m of annual spend running through it. The board refreshed on 22 and 23 September with nine roles and none of them is marketing. Mostly product, engineering and design, plus a senior recruiter, which usually means the hiring is about to get broader.
Announced 10 September 2026. MUFG Innovation Partners and Société Générale also in, on top of existing backers J.P. Morgan Growth Equity Partners and Truist Ventures
Generative AI for banks: research, document review, analysis, meeting prep. Over 50,000 users across 350 plus firms. A strategic round rather than a lettered one, following a $160m Series D in April, and the plan is EMEA, APAC and wealth management. Five marketing roles are live in New York with bands, including a director of marketing operations at $180,000 to $230,000 and a product marketing manager at $140,000 to $210,000 that has been up since 28 January. There is also a field marketing manager in London, which matches the EMEA plan.

The appointment follows the brand's acquisition by WHP Global and G-III Apparel Group.

Harvey is the legal AI company. The same title is also posted in San Francisco, so the seat is going to one coast or the other. The band is the thing to look at: over $300,000 at the top end for a marketing operations and analytics leader is New York setting a new level for that job. Fireblocks has posted a similar role at a similar level, so this is a pattern rather than one company's decision.

Fireblocks moves institutional money onchain for BNY Mellon, BNP Paribas, ANZ, Western Union, Stripe and Revolut, and has put over $14 trillion through the platform. The advert states plainly that this is a marketing operations and technology infrastructure role: you own the systems, the data and the processes behind the whole global go-to-market motion. It has been on the board since May and was refreshed this week, so it is being actively worked.

They closed a $40m Series A eleven days ago and this is the marketing leadership hire that comes out of it. 25 people, 15 of them former founders, two offices. The product is AI agents doing the interviewing and the sourcing, so you would be marketing recruitment software to recruiters, which is a specific kind of audience. Very few London marketing adverts publish a number at all, let alone that one.

First marketing hire outside the US, in a 90 person company that raised a Series B in January led by Ribbit Capital. The advert is honest that it is a senior individual contributor with no team, and that the first year is field and demand gen: conferences, exec dinners, roundtables, ABM. Their own line is that EMEA already has revenue and they want dedicated weight behind demand that is already there. So there is something warm already there to pick up.

The advert says it outright: "we're hiring the first dedicated owner of Omnea's performance marketing". Nothing to inherit, nothing to unpick. Omnea does AI procurement, employees ask for what they want to buy in plain English and the approvals and renewals run themselves. Spotify, MongoDB and Monzo are customers and the founding team came out of Tessian. They also have a founding product marketing manager advert open, which tells you the marketing function is being built rather than topped up.
New York, Flatiron, five days on-site · $150,000 to $225,000 plus competitive equity · one of mine
Basis builds AI agents for accountants and this is the first growth marketing hire, so you own the function rather than a channel inside it. On-site five days in Flatiron with no hybrid version of it, which is the first thing to decide about. The band is wide enough that the level is genuinely open. This is one of mine, so weigh my enthusiasm accordingly. Book straight into my calendar on the link.
Brooklyn, five days on-site, 40 to 50% travel · $180,000 to $200,000 base, OTE $200,000 to $240,000, plus equity · one of mine
The variable is tied to practice sign-ups, so this is growth with a number against it rather than growth as a brand job. Relocation help is available and the travel is real, not a line in the advert. Higher than the band for the right person. Also one of mine.
New York · $235,000 to $305,000 plus RSUs · first posted 9 June 2026, refreshed 27 August, live today
Fifteen years of leadership across digital, commerce, marketing or customer experience, and the advert asks for people who have led other leaders across multiple disciplines. Remit is enterprise digital growth strategy, omnichannel customer experience and digital capability building, so it is broader than a marketing job. It has been on the board since June and was refreshed in August, so they are still working it. If you have run digital and commerce in beauty or consumer, this is the biggest published New York band of the three.

You lead a team of five product marketers and hire into it. Synthesia raised $200m at a $4bn valuation in January and is turning its AI avatars into interactive, conversational ones, so the role is owning that story through an actual product shift rather than maintaining a narrative. One hard requirement is unusual enough to quote: "You build and deploy agents. You've automated real parts of your own PMM work with them." They also have a principal PMM for the API open, which is a first dedicated API marketing hire.

Monzo is running four product marketing searches at once: a product marketing lead, this one, a senior PMM for business banking and a lead product designer for growth. That is a function being scaled in one go rather than a gap being filled, which is useful leverage in a conversation. It is also the one genuinely remote-eligible senior PMM job in London this week, tagged remote across the UK.
London · salary not published · posted 14 September 2026

Healthcare revenue cycle, which is a category where the buyer is a finance team and the story has to survive procurement. You choose the hub and then you are in it four days a week. They have a growth marketing manager for enterprise open at the same time, so product marketing and demand gen are being hired as a pair. Also one of mine.

Clay raised $115m at a $7.1bn valuation on 9 September and posted this six days later, so it is a post-round hire rather than a backfill. 17,000 customers. The band puts a product marketer level with their enterprise growth managers, which is above where most companies price the title. The audience you would be marketing to is GTM teams who build their own campaigns, so the bar for the work is high.
Applications per job are up 111% and the number of recruiters reading them is down 56%. When did you last apply for something cold, and did anything come back?
