Should I Take It?

A founding or early marketing offer is hard to judge: the base is only part of it, and the equity, the runway and the scope matter as much. Answer a few questions about the offer and get a scorecard on five areas, where your base sits against 353 published New York startup marketing salary ranges, and the questions worth asking the founder before you say yes. It runs in your browser. Nothing you enter is saved or sent.

Source: 353 salary ranges published on public job boards in October 2026 for New York startup and scale-up marketing roles (companies under about 1,000 staff). London and other hubs are coming soon. Each role is counted at the mid-point of its posted range, so real offers vary. Equity guides come from 8 postings that printed a percentage, plus Carta and Pave published data. This is a guide to compare an offer, not financial or legal advice.

How it works

Pay. Employers in New York publish a salary range with every job. We collected 353 of them for startup and scale-up marketing roles and compare your base with the mid-point of each. Where few roles match your exact level, the nearest levels are pooled in and the scorecard says so. Equity. Most postings only say equity is offered, and few print a percentage, so the equity score is a guide: it looks at the size of the grant for the kind of role, and at the terms that decide what it is worth, such as vesting, the cliff and how long you have to exercise.

Runway, access and scope are scored from your answers. Each is rated strong, fair or worth pushing on. That is a judgement about the terms of an offer, never about the company. A rating of worth pushing on usually just means there is a question to ask.

For the negotiation itself, see The Negotiation Playbook and Startup Equity 101.
